Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Characterisation of SiC SiC Composites for Aerospace Applications

Closing date: 24th November 2021, 12:00
Grade 7: £33,309 - £37,467 per annum

You will be working on an industrially funded project (by Rolls Royce plc.) working on the characterisation of coated silicon carbide – silicon carbide composites for aerospace applications. You will lead the characterisation into composites samples tested at a range of temperature and conditions, with the aim of understanding the effects of environmental degradation and microstructural evolution on mechanical behaviour.

You will have a PhD in Physics, Materials, Engineering, Biology or a related field (or equivalent experience) with postdoctoral research experience in micromechanical testing and electron microscopy for materials characterisation. You can demonstrate evidence of a high level of expertise in both the theory and practical operation of micromechanical testing equipment as well as knowledge of the theory, collection and interpretation of electron microscopy data.
