You will be working on an industrially funded project (by Rolls Royce plc.) working on the characterisation of coated silicon carbide – silicon carbide composites for aerospace applications. You will lead the characterisation into composites samples tested at a range of temperature and conditions, with the aim of understanding the effects of environmental degradation and microstructural evolution on mechanical behaviour.
You will have a PhD in Physics, Materials, Engineering, Biology or a related field (or equivalent experience) with postdoctoral research experience in micromechanical testing and electron microscopy for materials characterisation. You can demonstrate evidence of a high level of expertise in both the theory and practical operation of micromechanical testing equipment as well as knowledge of the theory, collection and interpretation of electron microscopy data. You will have project management and interpersonal skills commensurate with a position that requires interaction with industrial collaborators as well as excellent communication skills.
