Congratulations to Yuanbo Tang for the incredible effort he has put in to get his DPhil thesis completed in time for submission before the end of term. Yuanbo has been working on grain boundary engineering of Ni-based alloys, in particular on grain boundary serration. He has designed heat treatments to deliberately introduce serrated boundaries and isolated mechanisms for their formation. He has also shown that the presence of grain boundary serrations has beneficial effects on high temperature mechanical properties, particularly in the creep response.
