Lucas’s aims to understand the effect of boundary distribution on the carbon mineralisation of basalt rocks, providing insights into the selection of the optimal rock type with ideal interfacial properties for CO2 sequestration. He quantifies boundary distribution through EBSD analysis and determining the fracture energies of boundaries using microscale mechanical testing. He joined the OMG as a Departmental Visiting Student from Imperial College London in March 2024 and is jointly supervised by Tinka Marquardt and Finn Giuliani.
