2021-2022 Part II Research Student

Davidson carried out his part II final year research project on characterisation of Ni-based nanostructured alloys for next generation nuclear reactors, working across the OMG and atom probe groups.

Generation IV Molten Salt nuclear reactors require materials to withstand extreme environments. Materials must exhibit a combination of good high temperature performance, irradiation resistance and corrosion resistance. Davidson applied atom probe tomography and complementary techniques to study detailed chemistry of precipitates, to help inform the design, development and optimisation of Ni-based alloys in nuclear application.

Davidson left the OMG to take up a post UKAEA as an engineer.
