Jack's work focuses on understanding the damage caused in metals and alloys by irradiation with high energy particles. In nuclear fusion and fission eutrons are the primary irradiating species but heavey ion and protons are experimenatally attractive substitutes with which to study the effects.
Jack uses transmission electron microscopy methods to characterise and quantify the damage produced and comparing between irradiating particles.
