Rob completed an MSci in Chemical Physics from the University of Bristol which included a year-long placement at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy and a project on characterising the micromechanical properties and radiation resistance of surface treated nuclear steels.
He has joined the Fusion CDT to look at changes in micromechanical and thermal properties of plasma facing components as a result of erosion/deposition and fuel retention. He will utilise techniques such as nanoindentation, microcantilever testing, TEM and laser flash analysis on Tungsten divertor plates and Beryllium tiles from JET’s third iteration of its ITER-like wall. |
