Shahnaz is a DPhil student on the Fusion CDT working on the effects of irradiation on the mechanical response of Fe-Cr alloys. Her project will utilise the newly opened Materials Research Facility at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy. Ion irradiations will be carried out using protons and heavy ions at a range of international irradiation facilities, at fusion reactor relevant doses and temperatures. In situ micro-scale tensile tests will then be carried out on polycrystalline samples and the evolution of local plastic deformation followed and quantified using digital image correlation, HR-EBSD, and other advanced microscopy methods.
