Tomohito joined the OMG team to work on HiRes EBSD measurements. His project had the ambitious aim of extracting absolute strain measurements from EBSD analysis by using simulated patterns as the reference.  This involved working on new routines for calibrating EBSD detector systems that substantially extend the accuracy limits of previous methods.

To increase the challenge further, Tomohito is applying the method to martensitic steels.  Theses systems have a fine and complex hierarchical microstructures and relatively little is known about the spatial distribution of lattice distortion (strains and rotations) within them.

Tomohito returned to his role within Nippon Steel after two year excellent research in Oxford.
